Lightning

Remember I told you the story of talented and witty Lee Trevino and how he got struck by lightning in 1975 at a tourney? He quipped later: "In case of a storm, stand in the middle of the fairway and hold up a one-iron. Not even God can hit a one iron." Singapore has one of the world's highest rates of lightning strikes. We are world class and in the world cup. You can tell people that we are famous for this too. Deaths from lightning strikes here is 0.35 deaths for every one million people from 2000 to 2003, higher than Britain's 0.2 but lower than the USA's 0.6. April/May and November/December are the worst periods with April and November the most dangerous. We read about golfers getting struck by lightning, divers drowning or badly hurt by quick ascend, plane crashes, H1N1 and frankly speaking going to work is dangerous! Someone can just give you the bonkers! Dangers lurk and abound at every corner so to speak, there are Chinese, Vietnamese ladies everywh...

Mirror Mirror On The Wall, Who's The Best Player of Them All?

Image
There are golf fans and soccer fans out there. The truth is out there like the X files. I knew of quite many who are both - soccer and golf fans, those who are passionate and played the both sports and gradually over time gravitating towards the smaller balls. There have been reader requests to do soccer. The following posers were given to me as if my day job is not stressful enough: Who Is The Most Skilful of Them All Regardless of Era? Maradona (my answer) or George Best? Mirror, mirror on the ball, Who's The Best Soccer Player of them all? Everyone of us finds certain players more endearing than others. Then it depends on whether we are just talking about the World Cup or regardless of it or a combo of both. Some players just shine at club level. If we are talking World Cup, do remember it is an event that occurs during an entire month from June to July while domestic and European Champions League takes place for a whole season. World Cup winners were: 1930-Uruguay, 34-Italy...

EPL - Here I Come...

Tottenham v Stoke City 0-1 Hull v Portsmouth 0-0 Burnley v Wigan 1-3 Birmingham v Sunderland 2-1 Chelsea v Blackburn 5-0 Bolton v Everton 3-2 Liverpool v Man Utd 2-0 Man City v Fulham 2-2 West Ham v Arsenal 2-2 This week's games: Arsenal v Tottenham No sooner had I told you that Arsenal is going great guns with the 3 "Ars" in place then they conceded two goals at Upton park after leading 2-0. What a waste. They will come strong again at the Emirates but this Tottenham side was over-achieving when they crashed to Stoke at White Heart Lane. But this is not an ordinary game, it is a London derby as was West Ham's. Leading scorer Jermaine Defoe is missing while Arsenal has outscored everyone but conceding goals. You do the maths. 2-1 to the Gunners. Bolton v Chelsea Bolton was a side boasting has-been stars under Sam Allardyce but they were tough as nails. Big Sam is no longer there but they have shown just what they could do. Ask Ev...

Strike While The Irons Are Hot!

It will not be complete without this. A friend working abroad requested this but it took sometime coming. Apologies... Some folks wonder if I really wrote all these things as an old well-meaning friend enquired. He may be thinking that I copied and paste them from some magazines. Haha. That, besides being illegal will be lacking in class and style. I do read a lot of these stuffs some years back from magazines but much of these are telling you what the manufactures are marketing. Through my personal experience in playing, testing and buying equipment, I have learned much (imagine emoticon of $$$ flying...) because I have many questions unanswered and was flabbergasted. I sat under different trees and nothing happened except a few ant bites. At least Newton got an apple, life is not fair I would be thinking. What if it were a durian? I cringed and so after meditating at the mountains under a tree, I felt the time was ripe to come out before the durian drops to digest and decipher...
