EPL 2016/17 - Game Week 13

The best form of defence is attack. But without a mean and solid defence, your strike force will be constantly under pressure to deliver more. No matter how good that attacking force is, there will be days where you may be a little off or the opponents somewhere figured out how to stop you and succeeded. Irresistible force versus immovable object. In this respect, Chelsea seemed to have it right under Conte - balance. In fact, I have never liked Chelsea even if at times in the past with Terry, Lampard and Drogba they have been very good but this Chelsea is very likable and have title credentials in their make up. Liverpool on their day are unplayable, meaning they could beat anyone, score lots of goals and from everywhere. They just have to plug their defence a bit more and surely be fighting for their title. Klopp is the kind of manager and personality that most people love - passionate. Their soccer is frankly scintillating! City and Pep meanwhile is finding life unpredictable bot

Mee Siam @ The Royals Cafe

Image
Mee Siam. What is Mee Siam? As you know Siam is the former name for Thailand but many of you are familiar with Thailand but at no time have I tasted Mee Siam in Thailand and yet it seems to suggest that it could originally be 'Siamese Noodles'. Commonly known to us, it is basically rice vermicelli popular in Singapore and Malaysia. It could have originated from Malay or Peranakan communities or could it be just have been inspired by or simply adapted from Thai flavours and it captures the essence of spicy, sweet and sour in a light gravy. The gravy is made from ''rempah'' ( the core ingredients of rempah are chilli, shallots and garlic with other spices and rempah actually means spice paste).  In our multi-racial food paradise, even Mee Siam is varied. The Malays even have a dry version which is essentially stir-fried rice vermicelli using the same ingredients. Some may garnish it with chives, omelette strips, bean spouts and lime. Some may

EPL 2016/17 - Game Week 12

The dust has settled a bit. City has stalled after a ground-breaking victory over Barcelona in the Champions League. Their neighbours bought some time for their forlorn manager with their best display thus far. North London brawled to a halt sharing the spoils. Chelsea is now Conte-gious with a most solid display yet, crushing Everton 5-0. This was a much better Chelsea than the one Mourinho fathomed. Solid defence, clinical finishing and Eden Hazard like you have never seen him this good before. A revolution has taken place at Stamford Bridge? If it were so, have the power changed to anther shade of blue and red? If you have been watching Liverpool, it has clearly shown where they could end up if they sustain theor belief and performances. Asked  Watford.  Liverpool were unplayable. It was the most authoritative onslaught to date. Their credentials have gone up a few notches. Unbeaten since that terrible day at Burnley, they have now scored 36 goals more. Liverpool was a wrecking

Geylang Claypot Rice

Image
How many of you have trouble deciding what to eat when it comes to meal time? Is it a blessing or  a curse? Half glass full or empty? Life is the same is it not in successful or less successful countries? Your problem is you do not know what to eat despite being spoilt for choices. Others have less or nothing to eat. So having a meal and food on the table is a constant reminder of your blessing. But if you live in Geylang, you have everything, including the dark side and back alleys but plenty of good food. Do you like clay pot rice? Then you could check this out. They do pork ribs, fish-maw, sea cucumber, different types of steam fish like garoupa, soon hock, threadfin and their signature fish clay pot. The food here reminds me of Joo Hing Restaurant at Joo Chiat. The dishes are typically local not leaning towards any particular dialect group but a combo of all. You will find a mixture of  Hokkien, Teochew and Cantonese influence here and there. We started wi

Golf Shafts (After Market)

Image
I have previously written that the golf shaft is the engine of the club. When it comes to performance, the flex, kick point, torque and alignment affects it. There are different types of shafts for different clubs and players in the market. Golf shaft technology has come a long way. Types of Golf Shafts Steel Shafts Steel shafts are generally more durable and are stronger. Being made from carbon steel they are mostly cheaper than graphite. Steel shaft does not go through the torque of graphite (torque being the lateral twisting of the shaft in motion), therefore, you will benefit from straighter shots as you get less whip. The emphasis here is on accuracy and control but not distance. You do require a faster swing speed to play steel shaft compared to graphite.  Even in steel shafts there are two types - Stepped steel and Rifle steel. Stepped steel shafts gradually reduce the diameter of the shaft where it is thicker at the top and thinner at the tip. You could see the

EPL 2016/17 - Game Week 11

Three teams now at the top torn their opponents apart last week. Sunderland 1 Arsenal 4, WBA 0 Manchester City 4, Crystal Palace 2 Liverpool 4. Wait, one more but with less goals - Southampton 0 Chelsea 2. All highly impressive.  Chelsea has finally settled, steady and clinical. Arsenal made it seemed easy late on, City were ruthless. Liverpool - ah simply breathtaking! Despite the usual silly blunders at the back. Tottenham are drawing too many games five out of ten. Are they missing Harry Kane even if he were not scoring as often. Leicester, crowned Champions last season are struggling a bit and just finding their feet but broke a Champion League defensive record in their first attempt by going the first four matches without conceding a goal! Then we have Manchester United - I saw a posting with typical British humour of a picture of a red lamp with the Manchester United emblem sitting in the middle of a table with a caption: Get a Manchester United lamp, it looks nice in the middle
